Scraping something like a pillar often can be corrected without painting the car. It is common that at least most of the damage that arises from this is actually paint transferred from the painted cement pillar onto your car. In many cases, we can remove most of the apparent scratches by buffing the area. Keep in mind that some of the damage might actually be scratches to the paint or clear coat and if that is the case, the only way to fully recover it would be by repainting the panel.
